A good moderate hike. Generally good trail, with some rooty, rocky and muddy stretches. You can go by skirting Dam Mountain (shorter, but rougher and muddier), and return by going over Dam Mountain (a bit longer, but more pleasant). Elevation gain from the Peak is 300 m, but most of that is in the last scramble up to the top of the summit.
Good views of Crown Mtn, other surrounding mountains, English Bay from the summit, at 1400 m.
Directions:
This trail starts at the Peak, at the top of the Grouse Mountain Skyride, at the north end of Capilano Road in North Vancouver. There are 3 ways of getting up to the start: 1) Grouse Grind, 2 k, 800 m up, very busy, not so pleasant; 2) BCMC trail, approx 100 m further east from start of GG, 800 m up, 2.5 kms, much less busy, much more pleasant; 3) the Skyride, @ $30/adult, or $15 if you're a guest of someone who has a pass ($5 for ride down only).
Head NW past the bear and wolf enclosure (look but don't feed), follow the same trail as towards Crown Mtn for approx 2 kms, but go right at the sign to Goat Mtn.

UpsideClose to the city, short, good workout, views, not too busy.
DownsideThe gondola is expensive if you down own an annual membership and the first gondola up the Grouse Mountain is at 0845am weekdays, which i think is stupid since the gondola is going up and down for employees...
CommentThe trip is worth it if you want to bring your almost out of shape friends. A little bit of work for a great view, that's always worthy.

UpsideNice views and well marked. Not to difficult because on the steepest parts there are some roops and chains to hold on to.
DownsideThe skyride up to Grouse cost money if you don't feel like hike up all the way from the parking lot.
CommentOn Grouse the trails are in good shape and well marked and not disturbed by all the construction like they have on Cypress. You also get a good look at Crown mountain when you hike to Goat mt. So you can see why you need to almost be a mountain climber to hike up there.

UpsideNice hike close to Vancouver, with good views and a fun scramble
CommentAnother way to get here is from Lynn Headwaters park, up the Hanes Valley. Crossing Lynn creeek can be a bit tricky in high water but otherwise this is a great route. Make it into a round trip by taking the skyride down (requires two cars).

UpsideBeautiful view of the lower mainland
CommentI hiked this trail two weeks after hiking through Hanes Valley. It was beautiful to see the valley from above on the peak and gave a really interesting perspective on what I'd already done. The hike itself is pretty straightforward and very rewarding compared to the effort involved. Once you get to the top of Goat Mountain, you can see the entire lower mainland.
