Description

Going West, travel 36 km from the Trans Canada on the Chase-Falkland Road. Just past Pillar Lake Lodge, turn right on “Lisa Road”, cross the cattle guard and turn back along the fence to the trail. It is approximately 12km from Falkland on the Chase Road. From Chase, turn left off the Trans Canada about 3km west (towards Kamloops), onto the Shuswap-Chase Creek Road. Go about 37km, to just past the Pillar Lake Lodge. Watch for the Pillar sign on the left.

LISA ROAD TRAIL – 60 minutes up and 35 minutes back. Yellow ribbons mark where to turn left and then it dead-ends. It is a 5 to 6 minute walk from the Lodge on Pillar Lake to the PILLAR, a natural rock formation. The Pillar is a large column of rock and clay, 60 feet high and capped with a flat rock. Below you is the public access to Pillar Lake, where you can swim, launch your boat or rest in the many shady areas. Parking is along the road. Terrain: Old logging road, on a hillside that leads to higher levels. Not suitable for thongs. Bring water.

Highlights: Terrific view at the top of the surrounding hills, valleys and fields. Wild flowers. Berries and a small shady pond form a spring await you, in a peaceful and serene environment.

Parking: Along road near the cattle guard.

Other interesting details; the community of Falkland, population of 600 was named after Colonel Falkland Warren, who settled here in 1880. The community bases its economy on logging, ranching, tourism and local manufacturing. Though tiny, Falkland is well known for its annual stampede in May.

I found this area in my backroads map book and went there when there was a foot of snow on the ground.. the wintery conditions and the huge towering basalt pillar blew my mind!!!! Downside the trail's a littttttle bit steep.. extra caution should be used in the snow!

Good STEEP trail.Close to lakes and Falkland Downside It seems people like to carve thier names on The Pillar! It is fenced off at the top for Restoration. Comment As I said The pillar is a very unusual Rock formation, It is unfortunate that people have seen fit to ruin it. Do'nt miss this before it is Destroyed!
