Description

NTS Map: 092G06

Numerous features and variations have earned this walk and trail area a high recommendation. See just as much as you would or more than visiting the Capilano suspension bridge - here there is a mix of trails, views, Fish Hatchery, and easy hiking. and you can check out the river kayakers launching from the hactery parking lot area (close to the Dam).

The capilano Fish hatchery, Cleveland Dam, and dog popularity (not to mention views) make this area popular all year round. The longest trail is the Capilano Pacific extending 7.5 km from the Cleveland dam to Ambleside Park (aka doggy park). It's easy to get there, by car, bus, bicycle,or by foot. Just a nice place to walk, and more the hike up to Cleveland dam gives occasional visitors to Ambleside something more to do.

To get to the park proper, from the trans-Canada highway (upper levels) take the Capilano Road/Grouse Mountain exit and drive North to the fish hatchery turnoff (just past the popular Capilano suspension bridge that many people curiously opt for)or continue to the Cleveland dam parking lot which is further up Capilano Rd. (same route as going to do the Grouse Grind - a popular aerobi-hike pastime).

Comment A great way to spend a few hours. It's accessible by bus, and feels surprisingly wild considering how close it is to suburbia. Huge trees, people fishing for steelhead on the river, cool bridges, canyons, white water ..... West off the reservoir there are a number of tricky little mountain bike trails heading over to the British Properties. Many of the rest of the trails are closed to bike riders.
