Description

A class 3 to 3+ white water run. With a class 4+ to 5 waterfall partway through. Starts off with some easy class 2, then picks up with Goldpan Alley, a straight shot 3. The river calms down and then there comes a BIG hole, followed by a left turn and then two more bends. This is Vuarnet Ledges, class 3 to 3+. After this rapid the river runs straight for about 500 meters, before turning right. This is Rearguard falls, usually a class 5. There is an easy and well-used portage trail on the right. Put in below the falls and then run the next class 3; it mellows out for a bit after that and then comes another canyon with some class 2. Then it is a float to the take out just above the bridge. Keep an eye out for some cool rock formations. In high water, there are 10-foot waves in some sections. In August, look for Salmon at Rearguard.

Directions:

The put in is best at Robson Shadows Campground, which is just west of the Terry Fox look out on highway 16, and east of Mt. Robson Park. The take out is at the rest area just upstream of the bridge over the Fraser at the junction of highway 16 and 5.
