This summer 2012, trailpeak is introducing several new features.|
Some of them are for premium members. "Trailpeak provides 100% free trail listings and other social networking features" for it's users, both anonymous and registered. One of those features is the top 20 trails (per region, per activity) which can be seen in the hiking section (lower left of the portal). For example, users can click the hiking section, and choose a region like B.C. There are 1,000's of B.C. hiking trails on trailpeak (and Alberta also!).
Users have been asking for a number of features, one of which is for more stats. Trailpeak has decided to offset the cost of developing some new features by including the enhanced version as premium.
"Premium memberships help offset the costs of hosting" says founder Kurt Turchan "and they help defray the costs of developing other free features for all users". Trailpeak has a lot of features, and they don't want to load the site up with tons of ads that detract from the user experience. A premium membership for those members who wish to support trailpeak really helps defray costs of development, hosting, and maintenance of the site. The editors of trailpeak are volunteers, but the site does have other costs.
Some of the premium features ( for $25 / year) include;
- 3 gps download credits (for users that don't upload to get 3 credits for each upload)
- At least 6 draws over the course of the year for the latest gear as featured on our home page
- 10% discount on the trailpeak GPS course
- Free GPS / software support for members (we'll help you via email with GPS questions)
- Enhanced Stats for the top trails last week in your area by activity, region (by visits).
- Contact another trailpeak member via email (if they allow contact)
With respect to enhanced stats, such as when a user clicks the B.C. hiking portal page -- premium users can now see the top 100 trails for hiking, for B.C., as determined by user clicks in the last week.
Trailpeak aims to get people outside, provide a great trail sharing service, supporting the latest features like video, GPS, wiki, and reviews, and also cover it's costs of operating the free service.
"Premium members get trail karma" says Turchan, "we really appreciate it". To upgrade, click here
