Most trails around here (Kootenays) still have a lot of snow in the alpine. The reason I wouldn't venture onto this one is that we've had an unnatural amount of rain this year, and the waterways all over the place are at record levels. Chances are you'd drive a long way and not be able to make one of the creek crossings on the trail (no bridges). |

Hi there, I just rode up there. At the 16.5 km mark, the road is completely washed out, except for a 2' wide section wide enough to walk or ride a bike. I was on a motorcycle and built a bridge to continue on. In the process through out my back so decided not to do the hike. But the view from the meadow / parking lot is gorgeous. If you do the hike, either do it on a motorcycle, or park at 16.5 on the road, and mountain bike the next 5km to the trailhead (and further if you want). From the looks of it, it will not take much for the rest of the road to disappear, as the slide took out the culvert, and the one place for the water to drain is the little foot bridge I made. Which won't last. It is possible to bushwack above the road if you had to, but it is steep and knarly. Pinnacle Lake is just fine though. cheers, David |
