About SPOT

SPOT Satellite Messenger allows any adventurer to communicate their location and one of two pre-configured messages to a map page on the internet, via email and text messenging, allowing family and friends to follow continuously. SPOT uses the GPS network to ascertain location, and a separate satellite network to transmit the messages. There is also the ability to use a 911 function if a major rescue is required. Our team is not only equipped with SPOT messengers, but also some great equipment from our six gear partners who are helping TEAM SPOT reach some remote and not-so-remote parts of Canada. Follow their blogs, and get more familiar with SPOT. Better yet, you could win a complete set of gear; a SPOT messenger and the other 6 great items each of our team takes on their own epic adventures. To find more information about the SPOT messenger, go to www.findmespot.com.

Win the Dream Team's Gear!

If you enter our contest, you could instantly upgrade to some of the latest back-country gear our editors are carrying. Here's the line-up: A PRIMUS OMNI Fuel stove will burn just about any kind of fuel and is super robust, Therm-a-Rest will help you sleep tight with their latest (lighweight and thick) trailPRO sleepmat. Kelty will shelter you with their 4lb Grand Mesa 2 tent. Mountain Hardwear will cover you from top to bottom in trekking apparel. Lowepro will keep your digital camera dry with it's Apex 20 AW (All weather) digital camera bag, and Gotrekkers.com will supply you with some easier to read shaded relief topos of your choice (we always recommend topo maps, even with GPS). You can win a SPOT messenger as well, and then start your own adventure blog where friends and family can follow along. You'll have the latest and some of the lightest gear, so get out there!

The Contest

All who have at least a basic membership (free) are eligible to enter. Use your profile page on Trailpeak to organize a trip with at least one other Trailpeak member (a trip shows up when you click "my trips" on your members (profile) page. We also call this the "My Trails" page.

After you sign-in, just click the "My Trails" button on our top navigation bar. Once you are in your profile, you can start organizing a trip by clicking "My Trips" and "add new". Don't worry, we'll know who's created a trip, and we'll enter everyone who does so for our grand prize draw mid-August 2008. While you are at it add a blog passage or two, and tell us what you are up to and why you need this gear! Oh, there's only one more condition from Trailpeak. We want you to take your digital camera and keep it handy (the Apex 20 would help in any weather) to take lots of pics. We will feature one trail the winner submits on our home page for a month, so plan something spectacular!

Using Trailpeak to find people and places

The featured region for our SPOT the Adventure event this summer '08 is one of the most pristine and remote destinations in Canada, the Cape Breton Highlands. This region has been one of our favourites, and Trailpeak editors have been there several times. You can also use trailpeak's database to scout over 5,000 trails all across Canada for some hidden gems in every province. Afterall, you helped create the database by adding your trail!

We'll even help you organize trips. Beginning this July, trailpeak is releasing new social features that allow you to build groups, find others, and plan trips with your friends -- right from your member (profile) page. We're hoping that the new activity dashboard that are coming soon will help you plan what to do locally each weekend. Just login to your page, and click "My Trails" (your profile page on Trailpeak) this July!

Please note: The SPOT Messenger requires a service subscription which is not included in the contest prize. See the Findmespot website for service levels and fees.
