This town was located on the old Caribou trail in the 1800s. It was on the height of land at the SW end of Tyhee lake, a short walk
from Telkwa. Before 1866 the Collins Telegraph line was going through this area. But by 1914 the hotel and stores were closed and
the town was dying out.
A nice walking trail is established now from highway 16 at Telkwa. The old townsite and former stores are marked by signs. The
Caribou trail leads between hwy 16 and Tyhee lake
Park in the small parking area just east of Telkwa on top of the hill. The hill is just above the traffic light. See the hiking sign
and the Aldermere historic sign pointing to the trail. Keep a look out for a medium sized black bear which inhabits the woods near
this trail. It ran out in front of me from the thick undergrowth where it was not easy to spot. The it ran back to the woods, and
stood up to watch me as I passed by.
