Beautiful day-hike through the High Peaks Wilderness, with the rock faces of Mt. Marcy staring you in the face. Springtime (May) is my favorite time to do this trek. My reasoning is that the remains from the winter avalanches really show the force and power of Mother Nature. The trail encores at Avalanche Lake. Gorgeous rock faces on both sides of the Lake tower over you which make wonder how such a lake can end up 3500 ft above sea level. You can branch off and check out the Marcy Dam. The ADK log has a wealth of information if interested.
