Explore the ruins of a turn of the century coal mine along a 1.1 km loop trail. The foundations of several mine buildings, a briquette plant, a coal shuttle train, piles of coal tailings, and interpretive displays in the old transformer building tell the story of Bankheads boom and bust. The trail starts in Lower Bankhead parking lot on the east side of the Lake Minnewanka Road, 7.4 km north from the town of Banff. Downside You can't spend more than an hour here

Comment Bankhead was a thriving coal mining center in the early 1900s and this 1.1 km interpretive trail runs through its ruins.

This trail is a blast from the past.
