The Barron River flows through the majestic Barron Canyon in the Northeast Section of Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada. A convenient parking lot gives easy access to the Barron River where you paddle upstream for a few miles to a portage of about 450 meters. After the portage you put in on a very tranquil section of the river surrounded by arboreal forest. As you paddle upstream the river starts to narrow as the canyon walls start to climb upward. The pink granite cliffs rise to over 150ft in height. Stop for a swim, lunch or just to lounge about and take in the magnificent scenery.
Directions:
Enter Algonquin Park from the northeast entrance and stop at the Information Center for directions and a map. Follow the road and turn off at the Barron River access parking lot road. Give yourself a good 6-8 hours to complete the round trip so you can really enjoy it!
