Bear's Den is a location near the Appalachian Trail. It hosts the nicest hostel for AT hikers, has a nice garden and overlook. It is connected to the AT trail, so one may travel in either direction. It is a bit rocky, but a nice shady trail during the depths of summer in Virginia.
Directions:
From the Northern Va. and D.C. metro area: Take I-495 (Capital Beltway) to the Dulles Toll Road and head west. Beyond Dulles Intl. Airport it turns into the Dulles Greenway; follow the Greenway until it ends near Leesburg and follow Route 7 West, pass the town of Round Hill. After ascending Round Hill, take a left at Route 601 (Blueridge Mntn. Rd). Go about 1/2 mile and turn right at Bear's Den. Parking is $3.00 per day.
