Before becoming a state park in 1999, Beechwood was a Girl Scout Camp sitting on the edge of Lake Ontario. The trails are the old roadways and paths from that era. Many remnants of the camp remain making this a fun property to explore.
Along Lake Road, and on property abutting the park, you'll find rare, pre-Civil War cobblestone buildings. To learn more about them and go on a self-guided cobblestone tour, pick up a copy of "Cobblestone Quest - Road Tours of New York's Historic Buildings."
A map and details for Beechwood State Park can be found in the guidebook "Take A Hike - Family Walks in New York's Finger Lakes Region" available from EMS.
From Route 104 in Sodus, head north on Maple Ave., then right on Lake Road. Pass Maxwell Road then watch left for a parking area.
