UpsideSome nice views, easy to follow, nice forest DownsideA bit dull along the lower sections CommentDid this in winter with crampons, though on the upper half snowshoes would have been better. I encountered knee deep snow in the last couple km before the lake and was struggling to keep going. Great views though and close encounters with the Massive range. Navigating past the falls was an adventure as well with an ill defined route through very deep snow. Can't wait to go back in the summer and reach Bourgeau summit.

Upsidewaterfall, lake in basin with 360 degree views, wildflowers, well defined trail, mix of flat/incline/decline, scramble option Downsidebugs, aggressive pikas CommentThis is a great hike! (I joined this website just so I could post about the merits of this hike given the other reviews don't due it justice in my opinion.) This hike does start with a ~1.5 hr walk through the forest but there are patches with great views and the forest itself is very lush in summer. After this, there is a gorgeous waterfall, as good as any other you will find hiking the area. After the waterfall, there is a ~45min climb, which is tough but well worth it. It tops out into a beautiful basin with 360 degree views and wildflowers of all varieties. The lake itself is a beautiful rest stop. Watch out for the well-fed pikas though... they have no fear and will crawl into your backpack if you let your guard down. To the lake and back can be done in 4.5 hours, moving at a good pace. There is a an option to hike up to the pass after the lake; however, my group was satisfied with the trip to the lake and didn't venture further. I definitely recommend this hike!

UpsideGreat views of Assiniboine from the summit. DownsideToo many people stop at Bourgeau Lake. CommentIf you only plan to go as far as Bourgeau Lake you're wasting this time with this hike. It's an average lake in an nice valley but the real prize is just a little further at Harvey Pass. The trail to Harvey Pass is an easy hike with only a couple steep sections that you can take your time with. From Harvey Pass you get views of Assiniboine beyond Sunshine village. If you started early enough it's worth pushing on to the summit from here. It's not difficult as there is virtually no loose rock and isn't steep at all. It will make for a long day but the views from the summit are even better.

UpsideNot crowded. Awesome Views of the Bow Valley, Sunshine Village, and Mount Assiniboine. DownsideNo pain, no gain. The hike from Bourgeau up to Harvey Lake is tough. CommentIt is a steady uphill climb all the way up to Bourgeau Lake, which is pretty nice, but you really get the bang for your buck if you push past the Lake up to Harvey Lake and the three other small lakes. The climb is tough up to Harvey Lake, but well worth it. It will take ~1 hr for this little stretch, and the view of Assiniboine is breath taking.
Was not able to make it to the Summit due to a late start, but will definitely try another time.
