Looking to wring out your hardtail or cross country duallie? I just spent a day riding at Boxford State Forest. Just a stone’s throw away from Harold Parker State Forest, Boxford looked like a well kept secret on the day I was there. It seemed I had the place to myself. There’s a nice variety of terrain and the trails are long. It doesn’t get too technical, and you can really open it up and get some speed. Watch out for some surprisingly rocky sections that crop up here and there. You can pick up a trail map at Harold Parker’s headquarters; but I would recommend just getting out there and exploring. To get you started, if you ride from the parking spot detailed below, at the first fork bear left if you want some cross country style riding; take a right if you’d like things to be a bit more technical.
Take Route 114 to the Middleton/North Andover line. On the North Andover side, turn onto Sharpener’s Pond Road (right if coming from N. Andover, left if coming from Middleton). There’s a small dirt parking area (as well as a gated entrance to the park) at the end of Sharpener’s Rd.
