This 2.5 mile loop trail circles beautiful Burr Pond. The trail offers some good craggy climbs, groovy stream crossings (some with bridges) and quite a few sweet vistas....including "big rock cave" (an old native american shelter)!
Apparently there is seasonal swimming, boating and fishing allowed on the pond, so the trail may get crowded in the summer. I mountain biked the loop in the wintery winter, and it was great! Hardly saw anybody on the trail, but **beware** icy rocks proved very tricky in many spots. Still, it was tons o' winter fun, and will certainly be a much more "low key" adventure in the spring, summer and fall.
Directions:
Off Route 8 North: Exit 46 . At end of the ramp, take a left onto Pinewoods Road. At the first stop sign go left onto Winsted Road. Follow Winsted Road for approximately 1 mile and take a right at the blinking yellow light (turn is marked with a park sign). The park is 1 mile on the left.
**park at the boat launch area...on Burr Mountain Road**
