This beautiful paddle down the Childs River will take you to Waqoit Bay. At the boat out in near Edwards Boat Yard can be busy with motor boats etc going in, especially in the summer and on the weekends. But there is a no wake zone down the river to the mouth of the bay. As you paddle down the river and come to a fork, head to the right to go to open ocean and left to stay on the river and go to the bay. As you hit the bay there is an osprey nest on your right. There are lots of little rivers off the bay to take you to some smaller ponds. Lots to investigate! You could spend a day there! Or even a night!! Camping is allowed at Washburn Island, but you need to get a permit from reserve America dot com.
Directions:
The boat put in is located of route 28 in Falmouth right next to Edwards Boat Yard. There is a small road that will take you down to the water to drop off your gear. Do not block the put in for bigger boats, they won't be happy! Free parking in the lot!!
