UNBC to Otway Ski Centre.
Provides an easy stroll, or a brisk workout. Travel Northwest from UNBC to Otway Ski Centre. After a mild ascent, the trail reaches a high point with panoramic views of local mountains, such as Tabor. The trail then descends to a beaver pond and a small lake, and eventually passes an old Mine site. The Headwaters of the major drainage in the Greenway are reached next, at which point the trail follows the drainage. This section is one of the most scenic parts of the Greenway. The trail alternates between Open south-facing slopes with colorful meadows, and forested North-facing slopes. As one leaves the drainage, a private Wood Lot, with a dense mixed forest is encountered. One eventually emerges from the trees and parallels a regenerating forest which has an open sunny aspect. Next, the Greenway enters a denser forested area with a fairly consistent canopy of Interior Douglas Fir, Spruce, and Birch groves. With a slight fall in altitude the greenway enters the Otway Ski Trail at which point it descends beside a small creek until reaching the Biathlon area. The final section of the trail meanders through lodgepole pine forest following the ski trails until it reaches the parking area of the Otway Ski Centre.

UpsideExcellent trail system close to Prince George. Great biking and running. Very scenic ponds and views over town.
DownsideNot too many bugs in Aug, 2006. Some showers each day, keeps dust down.
CommentI added some photos above. Found some nice picnic shelters and fire pits in the Forests for the World trails area too. Very pleasant day was spent in Prince George & met lots of hikers.

UpsideAccess to Forests for the World and Blue Spruce campground trail are definite ups. This could be turned into a 50km loop if one were to continue round the outside track at Ottway X-Country Ski Center and then return to UNBC via Ottway rd. - Foothills blvd. - University Way.
DownsideAs stated above - Lots of bugs!
CommentThis is a great place to run.

UpsideThe trail is 25km long if one starts at the Blue Spruce Campground. At the 5km mark one will enter forests for the world. There are 15km of trails in the park for the hiker to discover. One can enjoy these trails then connect back to the Greenway. When one arrives at Otway Nordic ski area he can add a little more distance by hiking the out side tracks. This is a great running trail and has lots to offer all users. In the winter runners can still use this trail as snow machines pack the Greenway section of the trail. The most important piece of equipment to remember, in the summer, is your DEET - bug city!
DownsideBugs
CommentEnjoy Prince George. There are a million places to hike, run, bike, and ski.
