This is a set of loops and other trails in the Salmon River Wilderness area. It uses part of the old Salmon River trail but leaves from a new trailhead on Myra Road in Porters Lake.

A complete trail description can be found at http://www.trails.gov.ns.ca/SharedUse/hx122b.html

The prettier parts of the trail are farther in at Granite and West Lakes and along the Salmon River. The trail goes up and over several granite ridges and then down to the lakes and the river.

Walking the whole system will be about 20km but there are some unofficial campsites near Granite Lake.

Directions:

From highway 7 in Porters Lake follow Myra road for 8km. The trailhead is in a small gravel parking lot on your left. The trails aren't officially open yet so there is no sign. There is only a railing made of logs going up the hill to indicate that you are in the right place.

By blaserPosted By: blaser  - Mon Jan 29 14:13:06 EST 2007 Not Rated Upside Trail can be entered from number 7 lake echo exit into river road . Entrance at Camp on the Otter Lake near lake boardwalk. Road is passable with 4 wheel drive to camp. Enter on far right side into woods where a trail legend is posted on a tree.

Comment Beautiful trail system with lots of various terrain. Runs along the numerous lakes in the area. Steep and flat terrain , lots of exposed granite. Very tight and steep in some areas. About 3 hr walking hike from Otter Lake to West lake and return.

By JodiPosted By: Jodi  - Wed Sep 13 14:31:40 EDT 2006 Not Rated Comment Beautiful trail! The perimeter of all of the loops took us 2 hours and 51 minutes just a week ago. Enjoyed it more than the Bluff Trail!

Total distance for us was 19 kms. Enjoy!
