Time and distance are for a return trip. Dog Lake is located about 3km east of Hwy 93 in Kootenay National Park. The trail starts at a rest area (well signed) about 30km north of Radium. Although relatively easy, there is a long straight uphill section which may slow some people down a bit. The trail crosses the Kootenay River twice - on a suspension bridge and then on a solid bridge, then proceeds through mixed forest.

For the less fit there is a bench at the top of the grade.

Directions:

Dog Lake highway pullout on Hwy 93 about 30km north of Radium Hot Springs.

Cool even on hot days Comment Good little hike either coming or going to Radium or Inveremere. Did the hike in less than 2 hours with a good rest at lake.

Very pretty and an easy stop as you pass through Kootenay Park.

Downside There is 1.9 km of uphill, so be prepared. Then .5 km of downhill before getting to the lake.

Comment Trail head is found by looking at camping map at entrance to Macleod Meadows campground (very nice, by the way). Or you access the trail from a picnic spot a short ways away. We did the hike, along with a good stop, in just under 2 hours.
