UpsideA short trail (1.5 km) to a very scenic lake.
DownsideAlthough short, the trail climbs steeply all the way.
CommentElbow Lake is unique in that it allows people to access a very nice lake and backcountry campground in less than an hours walk from the car. This is ideal for a first backcountry outing.

CommentTHis trail can be used to access the Tombstone valley trail, Sheep river trail and the Elbow valley loop.
I added GPS data, contrary to what the map shows I did not go swimming in Elbow lake

CommentA long trail run of 32k to Mist Mtn can be done by starting at Elbow Pass day use area. Take the Elbow Lake trail towards Tombstone Mtn. At the junction stay to the right and follow the Sheep River Trail and go all the way to and over Reckert's Pass. At the pass you will have a great view of the Mist Mtn. Follow trail down back to Hwy 40, on the south side of Highwood Pass. A shuttle drop-off is needed for this run. 32k, can be done in 3-4hr. Lots of elevation gain in a short distance to get to Reckert's Pass.
