The first part of this trail is an easy 2km walk along Heart Creek past popular climbing walls. At the trails end there is a bench for relaxing below a waterfall that can't really be seen due to the angle. For a view of the falls and a great place for a soak cross over the creek and start climbing the hill. The obvious path along the rock face is difficult but about ten meters to the left (downstream) there is a more gradual path leading up. When you reach the top of the hill continue down the other side until you reach a small backcountry campsite. Again, there is an easy way straight ahead and a hard way to the right. Directly behind the camp is a tiny waterfall and a great soaking pool on a hot day. From here if you continue downstream about ten minutes you will reach the top of the waterfall. Every time I've gone there I have had it all to myself. Please pack out your garbage and any you may find along the way. Enjoy.

Directions:

Park alongside the Trans Canada on the south side of the highway approximately 8km east of Deadmans Flats at the base of Heart Mtn

There is a perfectly good parking lot for the trail... take the Exit 105 for Lac des Arc. From Calgary, take exit 105 then turn left, go over highway, turn on gravel road that leads to parking lot. From Canmore take exit 105 & turn right onto gravel road into parking lot. Now you even have washrooms!

The google map photos show a few no parking signs at the trail head. Does anyone know where you are supposed to park your car while on the hike?

Creek to cool off.

Downside Overpopulated.

Comment Good stuff. Does anyone know if you can still park at the creek on the side of the highway? Word on the street is there are no-parking signs there now.

No route finding needed.

Downside BUSY!

Comment We left early, 0830, so it was quiet on the way in but super busy coming out. Well worth the extra time and effort to climb to the top of the falls. When we returned to the bench, I strapped on the gaiters and splashed across the pool, climbed over and into the base of the big fall, beautiful views. Only climb in if you have some experience it is slick and downclimbing was a bit dodgy. A great half day's hiking.

Watched the climbers awhile and just took our time. Great for families.

Downside Busy!

Comment Did the same hike as "canomad" but from the top of falls we took the path up and over to the west. Steep coming down and a bit soft. Leads inot the draw around the last bridge.

Comment highly recommended for a family outing or a hiking trip with friends....

Downside Limited views 'cause you're in a canyon pretty much the whole way.

Comment Great 1/2 day hike when you need a family outing. Lots of things to keep kids occupied and if you actually get bored (can you get bored in the mountains?!?) you can watch climbers scale the walls of the canyon. When we hiked this trail, I saw the path eluded to above, but never thought to try to cross the creek etc....thanks for the tip for my my next visit!!
