75km of some of the most sweetest single track on the planet. These trails will set you free and at the end of the day you will be grinning from ear to ear. Leave your DH rig at home and ride in hardtail heaven. Most of these trails have been around for about a decade:

. Four Dead Aliens (from the top)

. Toads Wild ride

. No Horses ( a must ride trail)

. Washing Machine

. Bitchin Camero

There is one rather amazing DH trail there called "Your Mom" and it's got lots of 4 to 5 foot drops, trannies, and, log rides. Otherwise, hardtail riding up along the ridgeline (views back on Denman) are in order, after which yuo flow down amoungst perfect singletrack. The closest thing to wizzing through the trees on air-skidoos like Ewoks.

Directions:

If you are coming from Vancouver, figure on an 8 hr. trip worst case - 6 hours if you time it right. Take the ferry to Nanaimo, drive North on the Island hwy for about an Hour to Buckley Bay ( 20km south of Comox/Courtenay) and take the ferry to Denman and then drive to end of Denman and take anouther ferry to Hornby. You can camp at Brads (2 miles from the ferry) or at Tribune Bay. Lots of B+B's also

For trail information go to the Off-Road Bike Shop by the Co-op Grocery (near Tribune Bay Campground) store and buy their excellent trail map for $2. The Co-op and adjoining restaurants, cafe, and, gift shops are all rustic and fit right in with the flowery Hippee style Hornby has become known for.

Trails such as Four dead aliens (from a ridetop) to the bobsled style bermed up "Wild Horses", you gotta go! Downside Hmm, what's down on Hornby, some of the locals attitudes can be downright unfriendly, but you can hardly blame them, they live in paradise (mind you a draught has been upon them for 2 years) and I was there on a long weekend. Comment The bakeries, funky galleries, great campground at Tribune bay with swimming pool warm ocean swimming is a key. The bike shop right near Tribune bay makes it a no-brainer. We left Horsehoe bay by Ferry at 6 a.m., riding on Hornby by noon! Yes, you could do it all in one weekend.
