Description: A popular destination for mountain bikers, this multipurpose trail is great for hiking as well. The initial elevation gain is up a set of switchbacks through the forest, and it's not too violent an ascent. Once up high, you can continue along the broad ridge either North or South. We explored both directions, initially continuing south-east and making our way towards Moose Mountain fire lookout (actually quite far off to the east and quite impressive-looking). We still had time to explore Jumpingpound ridge towards Cox Hill to the north before dropping back down to the cars.
GPS data as attached is for Jumpingpound Loop (see separate entry for detailed writeup). Use the far west parking lot in the GPS data for access to this trail.
Current conditions:
Directions:
Access Point: Powderface Trail Hwy at Cox Hill parking lot (Kananaskis).

DownsideRidge a little exposed in 30c temps. Whew!!
CommentWe hiked this from the Jumpingpound Ridge Trail to the summit and back same way. Ran into quite a few groups of bikes and every single group was friendly and appreciative when we yielded the trail ( I wouldn't want to stop a bike coming down thoses switchbacks ). It's great when we can all share the trails. Kudos.

CommentWould like to add that this trail is a great pick for a rainy day. Its at an elevation that tends to put you in the cloud, rather than under it, which gives a really neat, ethereal look to the whole thing, and the views you miss are not exactly the best in the Rockies. I'd add a photo, but I don't know how.
