Old fire road great views all the way. Then you reach the spectacular Kakwa Falls.
Directions:
Kakwa Wildland Park is 160 kilometres southwest of Grande Prairie. For travel beyond Lick Creek (roughly 10 kilometres from the park’s northern boundary) a four-wheel drive vehicle is essential. Visitors should check ahead with Alberta Parks in Grande Prairie to confirm road conditions.
Kilometre 0:
Grande Prairie – go south on Hwy. 40 then west on Hwy. 666.
Kilometre 11:
Grovedale – road is paved for approximately 16 kilometres beyond Grovedale; from there, it is a maintained gravel road used heavily by industry.
Kilometre 138:
Two Lakes Provincial Park
– three campgrounds (Gunderson
Meadow, Pine Hollow & Moberly Flats) provide rustic camping facilities including fire pits, picnic tables, privies and potable water.
Kilometre 149:
Lick Creek – only 4-wheel drive vehicles are suitable on the unmaintained trail from here to Kakwa Falls; there are creek crossings and wet areas along this route.

UpsideSpectacular scenery at and around the falls. Road from Lick Creek to Falls parking area is accessible by 4x4, if you don't want to ride in.
DownsideVery long ride. 46Km return on my bike computer. Long, rocky hills on the last third of the trail.
CommentBike computer showed 5hrs 16mins total time on bike, but it didn't count for a good 20 minutes after we left the falls. Plan for it to take a good 10-11 hours if you plan on hiking down to the bottom of the falls and having a few breaks. I won't ever ride my bike in again, but I'll be back with my 4x4, which is allowed up until the parking area. It's about 1km walk to the falls from there on a nicely maintained trail. Bring a comfy saddle, you'll need it.

UpsideThe falls are great. None of the pictures really convey the size very well. They are the tallest in Alberta.
DownsideSome of the hills are pretty long. Especially the last one leading down to the falls.
CommentThe ride was great. We burned through a lot of water, but we brought a filter to refill the camel backs at the river.

UpsideGreat views, Great adventure fording rivers, etc
DownsideWay too far for amateurs. Way too many steep inclines in the last 2 hours to the falls and back. Only saw one other group all day, so quite isolated.
CommentOur trip Sunday took 3.5 hours in, 4 hours back. Bring lots of Powerade (we ran out of liquids after about 5hours). We would call ourselves moderate athletes in reasonable shape. One grizzly encounter but after we started driving home.
