This trail has some steep sections, some flat sections, and some open ledge sections. About 2 miles into the ascent, there is a clearing with some good views. The great views are at the summit. On today's hike (11/11/08) there was a fair amount of ice at the summit. I bare-booted but some spikes would have been handy. The watchtower at the top is cool. You go up just one flight of stairs and there is a porch like structure that surronds the glassed in room. you can enter the room and sign the journal. This was a good shelter from the wind today. The descent is pretty straight forward. All in all this a great hike for a minimal amount of effort.
Directions:
Hurricane Mountain Road just north of North Conway off Route 302/16. About 1.5 miles on the left is a parking lot with a trail head sign.
