One the best mountain biking and hiking area in Central Mass. is Leominster Sate Forest, which sprawls across the towns of Princeton, Westminster and Leominster.
Leominster State Forest's 4300 acres offers a huge variety of trails. You can stay on the fire roads for more gently terrain or pick any of the single tracks that loop off the fire roads. The trails are well maintained, well signed and offer some of the best riding in the area. Most trails are technical single track that will challenge most riders.
As you explore Leominster State Forest, you'll come across a few small lakes as well as a park and picnic area which you can take a dip in after a long ride or hike.
I ride in Leominster quite often and find something new every time I ride there.
Like many great local riding spots, New England Mountain Bike Association does a great job maintaining places like Leominster State Forests. Please visit www.nemba.org to support these guys and to get involved.
Directions:
To get to Leominster State Forest take route 2 to exit 28 and go south, you'll see the a couple parking areas on your left. You can access the trails a little easier if you park at the second entrance. You can pick up a map at either entrance.
