The trail starts from beautiful Liscombe Lodge east of Port Dufferin. It starts out with a groomed pea gravel trail and then starts to narrow into wilderness single track.

Lots of roots and large rocks to climb over, some bog, which has been bridged by logs. The trail takes you up to an enormous fish ladder for the salmon run and you cross over an awesome waterfall on a suspension bridge.

Make sure you wear good, stiff soled hiking boots. Bring lots of water and trail mix.

Directions:

Leaving from Dartmouth, go east on Highway #107 until you get to Musquodoboit Harbour. Go through Musquodoboit Harbour on Highway #7 and follow #7 to Liscombe Lodge. Park at the lodge and hit the trail!

Great reward at turn around point. Beautiful drive from greater Halifax to this site (2 hours).

Downside
Bugs are absolutely out of control out there - bring serious bug spray! I went on a cool day and even so they were out in force - the bugs had me for lunch!

This trail entry was devoid of photos so I just had to go if for no other reason than to get some pics to put up! I did this trail on May 15, 2010. I was surprised to have completed it in such little time - I made it to the suspension bridge gorge and back to the highway in exactly 3 hours. Since I had time to spare I did one of the shorter trails across the highway (also part of the Liscombe Lodge trail system).

Trail is boggy in spots as reported and there are several places where the log catwalks built over them are rotted away.

Everyone should do this trail at least once - it's a great day hike destination, and Liscombe Lodge is a beautiful spot if one were inclined to make a weekend retreat out of the experience.

The unique features of the trail are interesting enough to make it worth doing once, but my take on it is that it has limited "replay value". Like a movie with a surprise twist ending, its great the first time but I can't see myself doing it over and over again.
