The Morice xc ski trails cover rolling terrain around Silverthorne lake. Volunteers groom about 25km of trails in the area. Trail user fees apply in winter, and no dogs are allowed on ski trails.
There is a small shelter on the lake, 1.5km from the parking. Summer hiking or bike riding is nice around the 2km loop at the lake.
Continue past lake on the main road for 2km to find a junction of trails. Go straight, and take second left in about 400 m to get on the Alpine cabin trail. The cabin is about 7km further and the trail is steep and narrow. Take backcountry skis and skins.
Alpine meadows are about 2km past the cabin and 500ft higher. Reserve cabin and pay user fee at Paradise Sports in Houston 250-845-2892 or Carlin Miroslaw 250-845-7515.
Directions:
Drive just west of Houston to Buck Flats road, turn left and follow it for 8km south to the parking lot and warm up cabin.
