LENGTH/TIME: 2.5km/60mins up

HIGHLIGHTS: This trail is rewarded with an incomparable view of the geography of the Pender Harbour area.

ACCESS: North of Pender Harbour turn left on Garden Bay Road at the Petro-Canada gas station. Travel 3.4km on Garden Bay Road or 1.5km after Oyster Bay Road. Take the first dirt road on the left after Oyster Bay Road. Really impressive, healthy arbutus trees up there too. An excellent workout, and dog friendly too. There is a small pond near the top where the pups can drink and frolic about in the duckweed. After the hike, drive a bit further down Garden Bay Road to Garden Bay Lake, where there is great swimming and a portakabin to change in! Excellent cherry pie a la mode at the takeout across from the Petro-Can! Downside Absolutely no view till the top, and the forest is a bit dreary here. The trail is a steambed in winter, so is uneven and full of smallish rocks...watch your footing carefully, especially on the way down when you are tired. Trekking poles would help. Trail is steep but much easier than the Grouse Grind (no steps), and a bit shorter, too I think. Watch the sheer drops at the top, they are dangerous for dogs and kids. Comment We climbed the trail to plant a TerraCache. Middle aged, tubby and only moderately fit, the trail just took persistence. We rested often, and while this was a good workout, and we were very hot and sweaty, we made it! We passed a pair of very buff ladies who do this trail every other day....in just under an hour. Oy vey! Take the camera; the views are spectacular!
