The trail is better in winter than summer. Nice packed snow. No crowds in the moonlight either! Downside Summer hiking can be busy with crowds and the main trails have loose rock making footing tougher. Comment Great views from the top winter or summer!

I always prefer those. I added a gps track that shows our loop. The Northern leg was along side a stream which I suspect may have a much larger flow in the spring. Comment Every year our Boy Scout Troop comes up here to ski at Gunstock. SuperScout and I always take a hike instead. When we chose Mt. Major we had Kevin with us as well and we continued on to Straightback which added another 2 miles to the hike. It was funny to read the comments about the crowds, as we were amazed that we past the 4-6 people that we did. Of course it was Winter. We also caught a couple of Geocaches on both summits.

Downside There is almost always a crowd on trail or at the summit, I'm talking bus-loads of kids and people in at least 3 seasons, the crowd thins a bit in the winter months. Comment if your looking for a quiet secluded hike this isn't it, if you do it at night in the summer you may spot fireworks all around the lake.
