Pipeline is one of the classic trails on the North Shore, and although somewhat difficult, is actually rated as on of the easier trails on Grouse. There are plenty of natural obstacles, but more recently (2009/2010) it's had lots of work on it to add berms, ladders, and rock plating. You might consider trying another trail, "Ladies Only", after you have successfully graduated from Pipeline. Its entrance is at the following GPS co-ordinate: WGS84 10U 496402E 5467395N, very close to pipeline, but don't get confused, Pipeline has two entrances a few feet apart so look a little further for Ladies only if that's where you are going. Both trails are accessible from the former logging road that starts at the end of Mountain highway. After your fifth switchback, proceed to the trailhead on the left, as marked on the maps. The trails also now have signs. Both trails dump out onto the Baden-Powell trail, which takes you back to where you started, on the gated jeep road.

Be mindful not to park to close to the gate, the trails are so popular, the residential area nearby has been inundated with mountain bikers parking on the street. The NO PARKING signs will help you in that regard; you may soon be riding up from a shopping mall parking lot below. Which is fine, the Starbucks at the intersection of Mountain Highway and Lynn Valley Road (Lynn Valley is an exit North off 99) is the local landmark where many local riders rendezvous before a ride. Ask about other trails in the area, you'll see plenty of riders on the jeep road that you use to access pipeline, grouse has some wild rides.

Comment If you are tired of the lower trails and are looking for more of a challenge Pipeline is for you

Lots of new rockwork and berms. Some ladders and some easy skinnies have been added; rode this trail two days ago and you could smell the fresh split cedar on the new ladders. There is also a new teeter-toter near the bottom. It has a nice springy action. One of the nicest surprises this year is the Baden Powell trail that you need to take once Pipeline ends, which has seen a ton of work to make it rider friendly; ignore the downside from the 2004 review.

Downside A tiny bit of uphill, will annoy the shuttlers. Lacks gnar factor for the hardcores.

Comment A fantastic intro to Fromme, or for a more advanced rider, a nice cruise with some wild rides at speed (the rock coaster, etc).

The rooty holes and steeps have all been rocked in. It flows nicely and has a few new fun features including a rock roller coast and a few new drops.

Downside A little pedaling but not much.

Comment Lots of fun and a good intro to Fromme.

Downside To many really rooty drops on the upper section of the trail. Drops you out on the Baden Powell Trial which just sucks to ride on.
