UpsideBeautiful alpine meadow Fantastic views
DownsideLong slog through the forest without views Scramble to summit not marked
CommentThis is a nice hike, but strenuous. The views from the lookout above the alpine meadow are wonderful. Beyond that lies the campsite and the path to the summit. While still on the trail it is marked with red paint. However once you start climbing the rocks toward the summit, the markers begin to disappear. Not so bad on the way up, but we would up FAR away from where we were supposed to be on the way down. On the up side, because we wound up travelling through the meadows (not by choice-we would never do it if we hadn't gotten lost), we encountered a pair of deer up close. The summit was extremely cold, even though it was August. The wind was blowing a gale and our hands were frozen. Come prepared for all weather with this hike...the views are wonderful and you'll go home exhausted!

UpsideBeautiful view and a nicely graded trail. There are a few great choices for places to pitch a tent. (remember to stay off the medow though)
DownsideBlack flies galore in the meadows.
CommentAs a day hike it's barley enough time to enjoy the surroundings (unless you start very early in the morning). This is especially so if you are gunning for the summit as you are looking at a roughly 18km, 1800m elevation gain and a 8.5 to 9 hr day. (not including the drive to the trail head of course!)
