CBC is the crown jewel of trails for mere mortals, on Seymour Mountain, on the North Shore of Vancouver. It deserves special attention because NSMBA (North Shore Mountain Bike Assoc.) has recently re-built it with lots of ladders that are not so tough - and others that are. The great thing about CBC is that it makes for one nice shuttle ride as you can drive almost to the top of Seymour Parkway, catch CBC, and then your choice of lower trail (like Boogyman or Severed, Neds, or, Pangor) for a nice long ride -- as long as downhill rides go. Often riders do CBC, Corkscrew, Pingu-pangor (or boogey). At the entrance to corkscrew off the road (where cbc spits you out you have to ride the highway down one long arc on the road) you choose between Corkscrew or heading to the right to do neds. The complete tour is described on trailpeak as "Seymour overview", as is neds, Corkscrew.
To find CBC, drive up Mt. Seymour Road and go past the Parking area that most people use to access Boogyman or Ned's (close to old mushroom lot). Keep going, look for the parking area after the inside of a sharp switchback 9this used to be the parking area, it's now closed off and they want you to pay!), and just a little further up the road you'll see a microwave tower on the left -- as a landmark. Park at the public parking area past that, it's a large paved parking lot you can't miss it. The parking area will probably be busy and the "HuckWagon" makes stops there - it's only $5 a ride from the bottom parking lot(s). Access to the trail is back down the road, in behind the barrier, where the old parking area has been closed off, now go down an access trail (very short) and keep to the right of the small building/fence area which gives you access to the trail. It's real easy to find but geeks can grab the attached GPS data. All you realy have to do is hang out in the parking lot (lower or upper) and ask, but the map we created below is pretty good too, it's on a topo map of the area. Have fun.
Directions from Vancouver:
Take 2nd narrows bridge to North Van,
Shortly after crossing, look for signs to Mt. Seymour Parkway, on the right,
Follow along Mt. Seymour Parkway, approx 5km, looking for Mt. Seymour Road (takes you up to the ski hill if you were to take it all the way). There is a mall - Northhlands mall, at the intersection,
Just under a kilometer up Mt. Seymour Road, look for a turnoff on the left for "Northlands Golf Course".
On the immediate right, is the parking lot, probably full of riders.
For shuttlers, leave one car here and take the other up to the upper parking lots (above Neds), or further, above CBC!
Local Conditions:
Some cool footage of CBC, Corkscrew, Pingu, Pangor ...

UpsideAmazing workmanship, stunts for the talented, beautifuly ladders, drops etc.
DownsideFor pro's only, you must have the bike, the protection and the skills. This is not for beginners or low intermediates. Rock traction is iffy, prefer the old days of forest floor mulch.
CommentI rode from the bottom of seymour parkway to the entrance of CBC, 2000ft climb, by the time i dropped into cbc i was a whipped bag of crap, the trail si amazingly beautifuly, so much work went into this trail its truly awe inspiring. The trail is used so much the ladders show wear grooves. Hardcore riders ride it all day so if you are a nub and going slowly be mindful or approaching faster riders. I would say don't do this trail without the full body army and fullface protection, then you should also have the bike for it which is full downhill or freeride style bike.

UpsideWell kept, accessible and well identified. Pretty long ride from the top to the bottom.
DownsideThe top is pretty far !! The trail was very wet and some parts are tricky.
CommentThis trail is pretty cool and is not so hard. It's not easy either ! The huge log over the stream got my attention. You can navigate easily around double black diamond parts, and a lot of tricky parts (aka: are you crazy parts) have an alternative.

CommentIt's official! CBC is officially closed from November 15th until the Spring of 2007. This is to prevent the unacceptable level of erosion caused by riding this trail when it is wet. Please respect this closure.
The lower Seymour trails are still open.
Have a fun winter!

UpsideFast, difficult riding. Enough easy parts to keep you going, but enough tough parts to keep you on your toes.
DownsideSlippery when wet
CommentOne of my favs. I'm glad to see it is continually under maintenance. Keep up the good work!

CommentRode CBC last night. As a beginner rider I found it a little tough, but very enjoyable. The trail itself is in immaculate shape. The rock switchback berm they're building is going to be beautiful when it is finished. Can't wait to get up there again.

CommentThe NSMBA & GVRD have closed CBC temporarily. Signs were posted, but they were turn down. Please check http://www.nsmba.bc.ca to find out when it is open. When the trail is open, an official GVRD sign will be posted on the road.
Do not poach the trail, and spread word of the closure. @ laser counters are hidden on the trail, the GVRD knows you have poached the trail, and that does not help the MTB community look responsible.

UpsideAdvanced beginner trail that is quite long. Beautiful ladder work, trail layout, and scenery.
DownsideDon't ride when wet.
CommentTrail work is still in progress - it will be much better overall, and especially when wet, when completed. Great start for a long Seymour run.

CommentConditions Apparently, October conditions have the CBC trail covered in mud. Avoid. A friend advised us away from CBC at this time, and instead we rode on Grouse, and, did "Upper Oilcan" (you'll see it here soon), which was great in the wet conditions as many inlaid rock groupings form the trail. It's also only rated a single black diamond, one of the easier trails on Grouse.
