Mt. Whymper is the tallest peak in Canada south of the 49th parallel at 1,500m (5,000ft). Involves climbing over clear-cut debris, hiking up a steep trail through a forest and very steep rock scrambling near the end.
Directions:
Follow the Chemanius Main until you reach logging road C-27 or C-29 (MacMillan-Bloedel Haul road near Chemanius). You should be able to drive up the road with a good 4x4 until you reach the trailhead.
Note: No access from the Cowichan side as all those roads are gated.
