This description is for a loop including Mt. Lafayette, Lincoln and Little Haystack hiked from north to south.
This is an excellent hike along exposed ridgeline. 360 degree views along ridge to Cannon Cliff, The Pemi Wilderness, Presidential and Maine. Be sure to save this trip for a clear day.
Use caution along ridgeline anytime there is potential for lightning (obvious danger), high winds (will make ridgeline travel harder) and ice/snow (10 or 12 point mountaineering crampons potentially required anytime from October to April. Snowshoes should be carried anytime winter conditions exist... even if there is little cover at trailhead. There could be substantial new snow at higher elevations (especially below Greenleaf Hut and the summit of Little Haystack.
Trip consists of 3 different Trails: Old Bridle Path, Franconia Ridge Trail and the Falling Waters Trail.
Old Bridle Path features views into Walker Ravine and the ridgeline and passes Greenleaf Hut.
Franconia Ridge Trail follows exposed ridgeline with constant views.
Falling Waters Trail features views of waterfalls.
