One of the lesser known land-trust parks in town, Onion Mountain is a sweet lil' gem. It consists of 190 acres of wooded, rocky mountainside. Trails @ the base are wicked easy, but they get much more tricky on the hillside.
I hiked it (took white trail to red trail up to top), and it also seems to be a sweet snowshoeing trail. Also saw on bikerag that it is some good mtb.
From West Simsbury (tulmeadow farm), take a left onto Sugar Loaf Cut, than a left onto West Mountain Rd. You'll pass flemig farm on your right and the park is maybe 1/2 mile up the road on the right. You'll pass a lil' dam on the right and then you will see a small brown maintenance shack...that's the parking lot. Hopefully they'll get a sign up soon.
