This old road provides an easy access to the Ganokwa basin, alpine meadows full of flowers in July. Follow road past gate to a junction at 2km, here is a trails info box and sign-in sheet. Keep right (left fork is a shorter hike to top of Little Onion mntn). Keep right at 4km and also at the next junction (side trails lead to ridges and viewpoints below Onion mntn.).

At 5.4km you will reach the Smithers Snowmobile club cabin at 5000ft. The cabin is large and serves as a warm place to take shelter from the rain or wind.

Continue along the road for another 4km to reach the meadows in the alpine. (keep on main road at 8km junction - side road to right). The Burdette cabin is reached at 5300ft level with easy access to more hikes up the mountain behind it.

Directions:

Drive east from Smithers on hwy 16, cross the Bulkley river bridge and immediately turn left to Old Babine Lake road. Follow the road 25km to the snowmobile parking area on your left. Start hike at 3300ft level going up the old road climbing steeply to a gate at 1.5km.

The most unique accommodation in the Smithers area is the Glacier View Bed & Breakfast located near Lake Kathlyn in Smithers below Twin Falls and Hudson Bay Glacier. The owners are hikers and skiers with a great deal of local knowledge. They have hiking trails near their house also. This is the only B&B in northern BC directly below a glacier within walking distance.

Sorry directions weren't available. Please check the bottom of the description.
