A great place to go for that leisurely walk on a long summer day. Pergatory Chasm is one of the coolest places you can find without having to drive very far at all. Located in Sutton Ma this small hike takes only about an hour to complete. There is a half mile loop that goes directly through the rock fissure and is extremely well marked. Chasm there are several interesting rock formations you should check out. Among them " Fat Man's Misery" once you get to it the name explains itself.

UpsideIts a great place to go for a walk in the woods or a picnic
Downsideif you are going to climb its not the best. there certainly are better local places to climb. the hike in to the higher walls is dangerous. given the nature of the area the walls arnt very clean and it doesnt dry out too well.

CommentI like Purgatory Chasm due to the location being in Sutton, MA. It is 5 minutes from my home and I like to go there on my days off to hike, walk, and geocache. Great to do with kids and sparks a lot interest in the outdoors. I do enjoy Fat Man's Misery as well as Lover's Leap and The Pulpit. There are also great places for picknicing and a lot of scenic views. It is really cool to be at the bottom of the 70FT granite walls. I would suggest you go see it. See you there!
