This trail is approximately 1 to 1.5 miles long. It takes about an hour to ascend and 40-45 minutes to descend. The first 1/3 of this trail follows and old logging road. You will see a noticeable change in the forest canopy with more mature hardwoods and lots of hemlock. The trail narrows and you are now on land that was not logged in some time. The next 1/3 begins a moderate incline up the mountain. The last 15 minutes of the hike is fairly steep. There are several trails near the end. If you take the trail to the right it is steeper and has a bit of rock scrambling. Continuing straight is an easier trail with no views. Near the top you will come to a fairly level clearing. Do not take the trail to the left. This is a ridge trail with limited views. Instead continue straight/right perhaps a hundred yards to a rocky clearing/lookout. You will have a clear view of Lake Champlain and the VT skyline. If you go off to the right you will have a view of the high peaks and PokoMoonshine. This is a beautiful and fairly easy hike for all ages.
Trail is on Rt 22 South in Willsboro approximately 4 miles in from exit 33. There is no sign to mark the trailhead. It is a pull off on the left side of the road with room for about 4 vehicles. It is directly across from a large sign for Long Pond Cabins which is next to a large (10-12')boulder.
Please note this trail is entirely on private property. The owners are gracious enough to let there be a public hiking trail. Please respect the rules. Stay on the trail. hiking only - no bikes ATV's etc. No fires no camping. On top stay off the soil - only step on the exposed rock. Like the rest of the Adirondacks soil erosion on mountain tops is permanent and the plants are very fragile.
