Sandy Lake is one of the lakes used by Nova Scotia Power for hydro power generation. The shoreline is uninhabited, and the lake provides a quiet, secluded wilderness paddle very close to the city. Give yourself time to explore the small beaches, and the island which separates Sandy and Rafter Lakes.
Directions:
Hwy 103 past exit 5 (Tantallon). In the valley immediately past exit 5, turn off the highway on the dirt road which leads to the Old Annapolis Road hiking trail (Bowater owns the land). You can either turn right, or continue straight on the dirt road, as there are put-in spots near the south end of the lake on either side. The put-in on the east side of the lake has a parking area and a boat launch.

QuestionHi There, I sure could use some help from some avid hikers, bikers and nature lovers like myself. My husband and I were out for a drive today trying to find Sandy Lake, in Halifax County (Off Hwy 103, Rt. 5) We found the road past the power tower and took that right. We arrived at a fork on the dirt road which read: Sandy Lake (arrow right) and on the left side of the fork was an A right was B. We followed the B and drove quite a ways(not sure how far) but could not find Sandy Lake. Perhaps we did not drive in quite far enough? Would anyone be able to give me proper directions and approx. kilometers that we will need to drive to find Sandy Lake. My family used to picnic regularly at this spot, but I was too small to remember how to get there. Any help is greatly appreciated.
