LARGER MAP

Description

Start at Moraine Lake (close to Lake Louise) and head towards Larch Valley. Follow switchbacks. After 2.4 km there is a junction, head right towards Larch Valley and Sentinel Pass. You will go through the beautiful valley surrounded by the ten peaks and overlooked by the majestic Mount Temple. Head up Sentinel Pass and down the other side into Paradise Valley. The descent from the pass is steep and goes through scree and boulder fields. Careful footing is required. Head left in Paradise Valley and continue until you see a sign pointing you in the direction of Wasatch Pass. Follow the trail (if you can see it) and head up the pass. Once again there is a steep climb over boulder, scree and snow. Travel with caution. Once at the top of the pass you are rewarded with awesome views of Paradise Valley behind you and the rock bound Eiffel Lake in front of you. Head down the pass (trail goes via the gully) down until you hit the main trail above Eiffel Lake. Follow the well trodden trail for about 5.6 km back to Moraine Lake.

This is a strenuous hike which includes about 1200' of cumulative elevation gain, some semi-tricky travel over boulders, scree and snow and possibly some route finding in Paradise Valley but it is very rewarding. Fantastic views, small waterfalls, wildlife and wild flowers. An absolutely stunning hike.

Please note that you might be required to travel in groups of at least 4 or 6 persons due to bear activity.

Directions:

Follow Lake Louise Drive from Lake Louise Village until the junction with Moraine Lake Road. Follow Moraine Lake Road to the parking area at Moraine Lake. Walk to the lakeshore and continue past the lodge to the trail sign.
