The shortest trail to the falls begins where the stream to the falls crosses the ?Shelving Rock Road? a second time as it descends to the Shelving Rock day-use area. There is parking for a number of cars on the left just before the road pans down to cross the bridge. The unmarked trail is wide and generally flat, except where it crosses a short rock section near the road. A bridge crosses a stream as it pours into Lake George; follow the stream till you get to the main falls. The trek is worth it!

Directions:

Access: Take Buttermilk Falls Road, from Rt. 149 on the east side of the lake, north to the Hogtown trailhead and Shelving Rock Road.

A walk of about 1.6 miles takes you to an interesting waterfall in an area with Indian artifacts dated to thousands of years B.C.
