You don't even have to leave the parking lot for stellar views on this trail. From Artist Point, take the signed Table Mountain trail to the right. You can also take the left trail but it's longer and the ascent steeper, you'll come back that way. If you have a dog with you like I did, you will have to take the long way around as no dogs are allowed on the main Table Mountain trail. The top of Table Mountain is flat (imagine that!) and you could easily spend an hour or two just wandering around up there. The views are spectacular.
You can either return the way you came, or head down the other side where you will hook up with the Chain Lakes trail. It's a very steep decent but I did it with my kids so anyone who is reasonably sure footed should be able to manage it. Turn left it will take you back to the parking lot.
Directions:
Take the Sumas border crossing and follow the signs to Mount Baker. Highway 542 takes you right into the Mt. Baker ski area. Follow the sings to Artist Point.
