A nice easy river trip for a half day outing, 25km one way. Longer trips are possible if you start at Takhini crossing on the Alaska highway or at the Takhini bridge even further upstream.
The river follows a meandering course through hills and farmland, a few houses and camps can be seen along the way. Bald eagles are seen up high on large trees and there are trails on the top of the steep bluffs.
Directions:
Drive past Whitehorse and turn north on hwy 2. After 5.5km turn left to Takhini Hot Springs road. Drive 10km to just before the hot springs and turn left on to a gravel road just before the pavement ends on the main road.
Go down this road about 3km until you see the Takhini river on your left after a steep downhill. Park near the river and start here. You will need a car or bike at the Takhini river bridge, where you find a parking area next to the river just before the Yukon river.
