Description

If you live in the Boston area and need to surf (as I do), you can go north or south. The Wall in N. Hampton is about a 1 hr drive North from Boston. In the summer it is going to have your best chance for waves (unless there is a storm, bring the long board though. And you should have a wetsuit, the water never gets much above 63F or so.). It gets crowded but there is plenty of room for everyone - follow etiquette and be considerate and tolerant of others (there are pros and newbies alike here). In the Fall hurricane season the waves can get to overhead+ (or head a little farther north for more sheltered breaks). Come mid-october, there are rarely more than a few people out on the weekends...just as the waves get consistently good. Yes, people will surf here all winter too (I recommend a 5mm wetsuit w/gloves, boots, and hood). Always check the tides first though, at high tide you usually want to continue a few more miles up the road to Jenness Beach instead.

Directions:

Go to Hampton Beach and head north a little. Look for the big concrete curved retaining wall that separates the beach and the road.
