With a network of paved, dirt, and boardwalk trails, getting around on this little island (88 acres in size) is a breeze. Check out the Teddy Roosevelt Memorial and fountain, then take a brisk jog on the criss-crossing trails. Despite its small size, getting lost there is easy, though. The boardwalk is a must for joggers and wildlife buffs alike.
Putting a boat in the Potomac River is a breeze from TR Island, but beware of motorized crafts during the summer months.
TAKE NOTE: no bikes are allowed on the island, but it makes for a nice break during rides on the George Washington Parkway/Mt. Vernon Trail.
Directions:
There's a parking lot on the northbound side of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Or you can get there the "mntnlife" way by walking or riding your bike right to the bridge on the Mt. Vernon Trail.
