UpsideThis was a good moderate climb on both sides. We started at the White pine parking lot hiked to Buntzen lake and turned around and hiked back to White Pine in approxiamately 2:15 minutes return. Trails are well posted apart from a three way fork by the powerlines ( no signs) stay in the middle trail (if coming from White Pine). Buntzen side of the mountain was a much nicer and interesting terrain. We only saw two other groups on a Saturday afternoon (nice) The dip in the lake at the end was a nice reward on a hot day
DownsideMosquitoes make sure you bring lots of off

UpsideBeautiful hike through the woods. Very quiet when we were there. Trails are in good condition, and I was very impressed with how little garbage was lying around.

DownsideNo real views from this trail. You have to climb higher to Punta Del Este and Diez Vista for that.

CommentAll in all, a very nice walk. Pastoral forest setting with a well-maintained but challenging trail. I found the hike up from the Buntzen side was a bit more fun, with tree roots and rocky areas to climb. The walk up from the Sasamat side is beautiful, but doesn't give the same challenge. It would be perfect for a hike from Buntzen, stop and White Pines for a dip and lunch, then hike back to your car at Buntzen *Edit: I've done this trail several times now, and I've discovered a little side trail on the Sasmat side that bypasses the most rocky and boring part of the Sasmat trail. Keep your eyes open for the trail. It's less than a km in from white pines.
