Wittenberg Mountain, via the Wittenberg-Cornell-Slide Trail, from Woodland Valley trailhead. Wittenberg is the darling of many devoted Catskill hikers, with its attractive, boreal ascent and its far-reaching, lofty southerly viewshed. Among, if not the most rewarding day hike in the range.

Directions:
From the west end of Phoenicia at the junction of Old NY 28 and NY 28, travel 0.6 mi. west on NY 28, turning left (south) onto Woodland Valley Road, cross the Esopus Creek at 0.8 mi., and continue right on Woodland Valley Road. At 5.8 mi., park at the Woodland Valley trailhead parking area at the west end of Woodland Valley Road, across from the state campground.
