Regarding trail Stawamus Chief, 2nd &3rd peaks near Squamish, BC

http://www.trailpeak.com/trail-Stawamus-Chief-2nd-3rd-peaks-near-Squamish-BC-2033

I'm relatively new to hiking and have only a few day hikes in the middle of the summer under my belt.

I'm just finishing up my university year and I plan to do a lot of hiking around the lower mainland, starting at the beginning of May. I'm wondering what trail conditions will be like at this time and what to expect. Are most trails still quite wet at this time? Snow even maybe at higher altitudes?

Thanks!

The Stawamus Chief, including peaks 2 and 3, should be fine even in early May. These peaks are only 500-700 m el, and by then, snow starts over 1200 m el. Unless it's really rainy, the Chief trails should be fine.

Hey Hey, I am up Grouse Mountain quite frequently and currently there is about 4 meters of snow at the top of the sky ride. Considering this, it may be quite a while before you can start thinking about the higher hikes.

The top pf the Skyride is at 1200 m, so no problem with the Squamish Chief peaks.

Wet and muddy after a rain, otherwise not bad. Stay below 800-900 and you should be clear of snow. I did a partial up Lynn Peakand it was dry. Just the other day.

I just did this hike a week ago and the conditions were fine, a bit if ice on the top of 2nd and 3rd peaks but nothing to be worried about, just out on your hiking boots and you are ready to go!

Felix
